Happy New Year 2022! After another year of Covidtime, the events of the year ahead remain shrouded in mystery — and perhaps it’s just best not to make any predictions. Still, because a new year contains all sorts of possibilities, it is an opportunity to hope! So, here’s hoping (and praying) for 2022!
January 2, 2022 @ 11am
We’ll be ringing in the New Year with some makerspace worship and by taking communion. We’ll be meeting at Mount Carmel Bible College.
Remember: the aim of makerspace worship is to turn your heart and mind towards God in community, so while there will be music, if singing causes you more angst than awe, feel free to bring supplies to draw, journal, read, or do anything else that will orient you worshipfully during our time together.
January 9, 2022 @ 11am
Edit: We ended up swapping our Borrow and Event Sundays this month! Otherwise, it’s still happening at the same place and same time.
Event Sunday this month is aiming to be both fun and useful. With the winter weather right now, there are many people in our city who are in need of warm clothes, gloves, toques, scarfs, and more. Our event this week will be focused on that need in a few different ways. In addition to gathering donations of warm clothing to pass on to local charities like Inner City Pastoral Ministries, we’ll also be doing some hands-on making together. No need for previous knowledge or expertise! If you can tie a knot, you’re good to go. (And if you know — or want to learn — how to crochet or knit, there will be chances to do that too).
Stay tuned for more information on this event closer to the day. This will be happening at Mount Carmel Bible College. (We may be able to do part of this event via Zoom. If you are interested in joining online, send an email to info@ajesuscommunity.ca.)
January 16, 2022 @ 11am
For this month’s Borrow Sunday, we’ll be reading through 1 Thessalonians together, taking part in a very ancient church practice: the public reading of scripture. 1 Thessalonians, with its focus on learning to live at peace with one another, contains an especially powerful message for today, which we will be exploring together during the service.
This will be happening at Mount Carmel Bible College. If you are interested in joining via Zoom, send an email to info@ajesuscommunity.ca.
January 23, 2022 @ 11am
The fourth Sunday this month will be a “Word!” Sunday, where Jay will be speaking. We will be meeting at Mount Carmel Bible College at 11am. For those who are interested, Zoom is also an option — email Jeff for more info.
January 30, 2022 | No Church
As is our tradition, because the last Sunday of January is a fifth Sunday, it’s a Sabbatical Sunday. This means that it’s really an open week for everyone. No one will be at church, so don’t go to the building! This could be a great opportunity (assuming COVID-restrictions allow for it) to have someone over for a meal, or even just to rest. As Julian of Norwich said, “But all will be well, and all will be well, and every kind of thing will be well.” God is in control.
As more details unfold about each week, we’ll update this page. Please note that our in-person events will follow Provincial and City of Edmonton guidelines for COVID-19, including masking and distancing requirements.
