It’s creepy and it’s kooky, mysterious and spooky, it’s altogether ooky… the speed at which time passes. So weird that it is already October! I can see my breath most mornings these days, but my dismay at the temperature is tempered by my enjoyment of sweaters, jackets, and wool socks.
What’s happening this month with our little community in Edmonton? You’ll have to scroll down to find out…
- Sunday, October 1: This Sunday we’re going to be worshipping together at Mount Carmel at 11am by singing and having snacks — in other words, Worship & Snacks. We’ll all be together (although we’ll also have the big drawing/art zone set up at the back for anyone who prefers to worship that way), so there’s no Sunday school. If you feel led to bring a snack, please do! We’ll set that up downstairs for afterwards. (If your snack contains dairy, gluten, eggs, or nuts, maybe just make a note of that).
- Sunday, October 8: It’s the Thanksgiving Day Long Weekend, so that seems like a good time to do a Sabbatical Sunday. Sabbatical Sunday means no church! Now, that definitely doesn’t mean people can’t get together: in fact, it might be the perfect opportunity to have someone you don’t know over for lunch! Or just take the day off! Read a book, go for a walk, check out the corn maze, try doing some sabbath.
- Sunday, October 15: We’ve got a strange sort of event planned for this week at Mount Carmel at 11am on Sunday. We’ll be borrowing from an ancient church practice — the public reading of Scripture — and reading and talking through a book of the Bible together. (This little video about this practice is really great!)
- Sunday, October 22: This Sunday is Word Sunday, which means we are going to be continuing our look at who Jesus was and specifically how he related to others. This week we’ll be hearing from Ruth about Jesus and … all the rest (or the others, or the extras — i.e., the people Jesus came across during his ministry). Sunday School for Grade 6 and under will also be available. (If you’d like to hear some of our past ones, the ones that we remembered to record are available here.)
- Sunday, October 29: We are going to be having another Worship Sunday this week — I know: two in one month? What’s going on? Don’t you know it’s time to praise the Lord? Same meeting time (11am); same meeting place (Mount Carmel).
If you’re interested in being on the email list for more details on what’s happening from week to week, send Jeff a note.
