A request came in recently about whether there might be a place to store these. This blog post is \u2014 right now \u2014 being inaugurated as&nbsp;<em>that very place\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"a73e\">We\u2019ll keep updating this post as new items are shared for the rest of 2021. There is also a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@ajesuscommunity\/the-basis-for-christian-fellowship-a771806e7f2\">post<\/a>\u00a0with a bit more context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"bab1\">August<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On Discord, Jeff recommended a book called \u201cHealing Haunted Histories: A Settler Discipleship of Decolonization\u201d by Elaine Enns and Ched Myers. Really thought-provoking!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jay sent out this article by Philip Yancey reflecting on the life of Walter Wangerin Jr., who passed away August 5:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2021\/august-web-only\/walter-wangerin-jr-philip-yancey-tribute-storyteller.html?utm_source=CT+Weekly+Newsletter&amp;utm_medium=Newsletter&amp;utm_term=360847&amp;utm_content=6524&amp;utm_campaign=email&amp;vgo_ee=KjE6MwTP7SrIsHIKRAfr8b35hO7C%2FF3J%2FgQB9Uu3XAY%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2021\/august-web-only\/walter-wangerin-jr-philip-yancey-tribute-storyteller.html<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"8598\">July<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"9fc0\"><em>By mid-July, we had settled into the latest version of our community\u2019s name,&nbsp;<\/em>A Jesus Community<em>, which seemed to balance representing our core value with just the right amount of defamiliarization.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jay and Jeff both recommended Todd Wiebe\u2019s \u201cEvangelically Departed\u201d newsletter and specifically this one:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evangelicallydeparted.substack.com\/p\/anticipating-change?r=1ik18&amp;utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web&amp;utm_source=copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cAnticipating Change\u201d (Evangelically Departed)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Joy suggested checking out the About Light exhibit at City Centre Mall, it would be well worth your while:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aboutlight.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/aboutlight.net\/<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jay shared a great video about Father Greg Boyle\u2019s work (some may know about Homeboy Industries) in East Los Angeles:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ipR0kWt1Fkc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/ipR0kWt1Fkc<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hilary talked about the usefulness of \u201cmorning pages\u201d at church, and Jeff has since discovered that one of his favourite newsletter-writers, Austin Kleon (author of\u00a0<em>Steal Like an Artist<\/em>), had a blog post on it:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/austinkleon.com\/2020\/12\/07\/morning-pages-and-variations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/austinkleon.com\/2020\/12\/07\/morning-pages-and-variations\/<\/a>\u00a0(apologies for some brief swearing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"b4af\">June<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jay shared a reflection from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vision-ministries.org\/resources\/events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vision Ministries Canada\u2019s Indigenous Ministries affinity group<\/a>\u00a0on the recent tragic news relating to residential schools in Kamloops, BC and Cowessess, SK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeff read a thought-provoking article about the mystic French philosopher, Simone Weil, that he thought some others might enjoy: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/the-paper\/v43\/n13\/toril-moi\/i-came-with-a-sword\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I Came with a Sword<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jay sent along a great article from<em>\u00a0Comment Magazine<\/em>\u00a0about Wendell Berry and cultivating hope: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/christianexperiment.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=f456d8aa200c43487f066f343&amp;id=1068fd8385&amp;e=75b897ff2b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Labours of love: Cultivating grounds for hope and good work<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Margie sent a post from Todd Wiebe\u2019s newsletter around, which asks what what would happen if we believed Jesus\u2019s sacrifice did more than just create a possibility. You can find it here: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/christianexperiment.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=f456d8aa200c43487f066f343&amp;id=abe2834165&amp;e=75b897ff2b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Does Jesus Make a Difference?<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeff shared two podcasts:\u00a0<em>The Soul of Christianity\u00a0<\/em>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.1517.org\/podcasts\/soul-of-christianity\/s02ch01e01\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Season 02, Episode 01<\/a>) in which Chad Bird (author of\u00a0<em>Night Driving: Notes from a Prodigal Soul<\/em>) talks about his reason for coming to church, which was to hear that good news that God loved him and would rather die than be separated from us; and\u00a0<em>Christian History Almanac<\/em>, which is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.1517.org\/podcasts\/the-christian-history-almanac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">very short daily podcast<\/a>\u00a0that presents obscure and interesting snippets from church history in just 5 mins.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"9e76\">May<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"e188\"><em>From the end of May to the beginning of July, our community briefly changed its name to \u201cEastside Christian Experiment.\u201d While suitably funky, it was not quite accurate geographically speaking and had some other limitations that only a true dyed-in-the-wool hippie solution could address.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you\u2019re looking for some good reading about the Trinity, check out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/christianexperiment.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=f456d8aa200c43487f066f343&amp;id=eaddeee148&amp;e=6c18fd2d9e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this very educational Twitter thread<\/a>\u00a0from the always enjoyable and smart Dr. Ben Myers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"73aa\">March<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"9e68\"><em>This was from back when our little initiative was called \u201cUnnamed Chapel.\u201d The recommendations from this period tended to be fairly wide-ranging.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you were wanting to check out the great\u00a0<strong>Skit Guys video<\/strong>\u00a0Eliot shared, you can check it out here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/3QCkBL2DfVg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/3QCkBL2DfVg<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lucy wants to recommend\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1677720\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ready Player One<\/a>\u00a0for anyone who hasn\u2019t seen it (or has).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jeff enjoyed this recent podcast episode on The Rector\u2019s Cupboard:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rectorscupboard.podbean.com\/e\/the-sacredsecular-divide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Sacred\/Secular Divide<\/a>\u00a0(Interview with Randy Hein).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nate Bargatze\u2019s latest special on Netflix (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/81248586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Greatest Average American<\/a>) earned positive reviews from Luke.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For those of you who are looking for a good Korean drama (TV series), Ruth recommends\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crash_Landing_on_You\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crash Landing on You<\/a>: \u201cGreat Korean drama. Funny, sad, and romantic.
