The first Sunday of the month is our \u201cBrunch\u2122\u201d Sunday<\/a>. Why did we add an illegitimate trademark to \u201cBrunch\u201d? Well, we don\u2019t have a good reason beyond that it seemed sort of funny at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This week we will be gathering at Jay and Marg\u2019s place at 11am. (Email for address<\/a>). Although the brunch meal is going to be more of a potluck going forward, this time you can just plan to bring yourselves. If possible, let us know<\/a> ahead of time that you are coming so we can have numbers and allergies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After brunch, for those who are interested, we will be trying out something that we\u2019ve tentatively called \u201cmakerspace worship<\/a>\u201d. Basically, think of it as a kind of spiritually oriented coffee house concert that you can sing along with or find other ways to orient your heart and mind to God. We will kick this time off with communion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For those who are interested, <\/em>Vision Ministries Canada<\/em><\/strong><\/a> will be holding a prayer time to be held over Zoom on Saturday, September 11 at 7pm. Email <\/em>Jeff<\/em><\/a> if you would like to be sent the Zoom link.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n This Sunday is technically our \u201cLet\u2019s Try This!\u201d Sunday<\/a>, where we borrow traditions from other Christian faith groups through the centuries. This week we will be bending the definitions a bit by taking part in Mount Carmel Bible College\u2019s annual Elijah Run & Community BBQ<\/strong><\/a>, which several other churches in the Edmonton area also take part in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Participation<\/a> in this event can take the form of walking, running, or just cheering people on, and is also an opportunity to welcome the new students to their year of Bible College and to support Carmel\u2019s fundraising efforts. More information on this is forthcoming; in the meantime, check out Mount Carmel\u2019s website. Registration starts at 3:30pm; BBQ is at 5:30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are interested in helping with set up or clean up, please get in touch with Jay. Register online to walk or run.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Week three is the week that we affectionately (and confusingly) call \u201cWhat is This?\u201d Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This month, we will be discussing a movie<\/em>. In fact, we will be discussing Joy\u2019s favourite thoughtful movie in honour of her birthday: the 2007 epic fantasy disaster comedy film<\/a>, Evan Almighty<\/em>. (It\u2019s possible that this isn\u2019t Joy\u2019s favourite thoughtful movie, but that she chose it because it would be kid-friendly. We shall see!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n The movie is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Sunday, September 19 at 1pm, we\u2019ll be having a conversation about the movie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n N.B.: This week is Zoom-friendly, so if you would like to join via Zoom, sign up to <\/em>join the mailing list<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our fourth Sunday of the month is \u201cWord!\u201d Sunday<\/a>, where we listen to someone teach from the Bible about a topic that will shape the next month of Sundays. This month, Ruth will be preaching. Here\u2019s what she says about the topic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe plan for this week is to talk about the grace we show to others in light of God\u2019s grace to us.
