The year 2023 marks several anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the publication of the first Bond novel, the 100th anniversary of the founding of Walt Disney Studios, and the 60th anniversary of the same-day deaths of C.S. Lewis, John F. Kennedy, and Aldous Huxley (a date immortalized in Peter Kreeft’s dialogue, Between Heaven and Hell).
What new anniversaries might this year hold? (Other than the Dune sequel, of course). Perhaps there will be a few that happen at Peace Christian Community!
Here’s what’s happening in the month of January— all our events, unless otherwise indicated, take place at Mount Carmel Bible College:
- Sunday, January 1: Because of the New Year’s Eve party that happened Dec 31, there’s NO CHURCH today! Enjoy some extra zzz’s (or, like, early morning tobogganing or skating or something with the family).
- Sunday, January 8 (11am–1pm): This week we’ll be doing lectio divina, which is an ancient Christian practice for contemplating scripture.
- Sunday, January 15 (11am-1pm): This Sunday, we’re going to be watching some short clips from some recent movies that stray into spiritually interesting areas, and then we’ll talk about them together.
- Sunday, January 22 (11am-1pm): This week we will be meeting at Mount Carmel at 11am as usual, with a plan to worship together, take communion, and hopefully have some extra time to have coffee and snacks. Kids will be in the service with us this week, but there will be a play area set up for any kids who wants to worship that way.
- Sunday, January 29: This week is a fifth Sunday, so it is a Sabbatical Sunday and that means NO CHURCH. That being said, anyone who is interested is welcome to join the Kings for brunch at their place! Contact Jeff if you are planning on coming.
Planning is still underway for the year — stay tuned for more updates forthcoming!
